Gladsome things

The drum section of the marching band just rattled below my window. It was quite loud, but they were well-coordinated, I'll give them that.

There is an old black man whom I have twice seen rolling down Elm Street (the one that runs below my window) in his electric wheelchair, a large boom box on his lap blaring music. He is incredible--I can't help but smile when I see him.

Every Friday there are work days on the Yale Farm, followed by pizza made in the outdoor wood-fired oven. I spent an hour and a bit harvesting peppers and cilantro and clearing beds, and then got to eat what is some of the best pizza I have ever had. A local bakery donates the dough, which is topped with wonderful things from the farm--sungold tomatoes, grilled eggplant, caramelized onion, tomato comfite (with GIANT cloves of garlic), basil, thyme... It is a wonderful, wonderful thing. There was also a folk music emsemble, which included Dean Salovey (the Dean of the University) on the upright bass, followed by the student folk emsemble, TUIB. It's a great way to wrap up the week, very quaint and folksy and fun.

At some point I'll get it together and actually have images that are apropos of what I'm writing about, but in the meantime... This is the view from my room, a bit blurry.

I got a job with the Sustainable Food Project, and I also got into the Slavs, that is, the Women's Slavis Chorus--not a Slav, true, but I am a woman.
